This pure silver one-dollar coin is a re-creation of a coin from the year 1967. The older version of it celebrates the 100th anniversary of Canada and on it, there is ‘1867-1967’ engraved alongside the words ‘Canada’ and ‘Dollar’. In the central part of the coin, there is a side profile of a goose in flight. According to the designer, Alex Colville, the goose is one of the Canada’s most majestic creatures and it rightfully deserved its place on this coin. On the engraving of the newer version, even the texture of the feathers can be noticed. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, just like all the other coins of the set.
Enchanting Features of the New Coin
The new version of the coin that symbolizes Canadian spirit was made to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada. Naturally, the reverse features the engraved word ‘Canada’ and the years ‘1867-2017’. However, there are certain differences between this coin and the older version. On it, there are some beautiful enhancements in the form of gold plating. This is applied not only to the goose but also to the space along the rim.
