What Are The Ties That Connect Canada And The Titanic?
The Titanic set sail on April 10, 1912, and it struck an iceberg on April 14, sinking just 400 miles off the coast of Newfoundland. After the crew sent out a distress call, the Carpathia was the first ship to reach the Titanic and rescue more than 700 people. But, on April 17, the day before the Carpathia arrived in New York, the White Star Line dispatched four Canadian vessels in order to begin the search for bodies. Only 59 bodies of victims were brought back to their families. The rest were buried in Halifax- to be more precise, 150 of them. Burial services were held at several churches and cathedrals.
The Amazing Features Of This Two-Coin Set
The Titanic collector’s set consists of 2 pieces: a 25-cent and 50-cent coins. Each depicting some of the most important parts of this tragic story. The 25-cent coin features 2 images. On the first, there are vibrant colours that are used to depict a happy scene of people on the shore waving to the passengers. On the other one, it is night and we can see the boat on the water, having a calm sail. On the other hand, things are completely different from the second coin. This depiction is not that joyous. It features a scene where the Titanic is just in front of the iceberg- a moment after which the destiny of a number of people was completely changed.
