This Canadian coin on sale now is an examination of the feats achieved by this man will leave no doubt as to why this is a highly prized item.
Billy Bishop: A Legendary War Hero
Billy Bishop whose official name is William Avery Bishop performed extraordinarily heroic acts during World War 1 and is most definitely deserving of the commemorative coin. This war hero is known as Canada’s ace marksman as he shot down 72 German aircrafts during the first world war earning numerous accolades as a result. Among these accolades was the Victoria Cross and Billy accomplished another feat here being the first member of the Canadian Air force to receive the honour. He also helped to establish the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
Introducing the Billy Bishop Commemorative Coin
The coin is the first of its kind and is designed to honour Billy Bishop for his stellar contribution to the nation and the world. Detailed and incredibly accurate replicas of archival photographs have been engraved into the surface of the coin. It boldly sports a colour image of the great fighter pilot regally attired in his military wear. The image is prominently displayed to the forefront of the coin and the artist has skillfully given the colour image an appearance of dominance which in itself gives the image behind it a nostalgic air.
In the background is a picture of Canada’s ace fighter pilot standing next to the first craft he actually flew during his missions and had affectionately named ‘Little Daisy’. This aircraft is particularly significant since it was the one he flew in his famous 1972 solo raid, during which he shot down three German fighter planes and sent one fleeing. Above the engraving, the word ‘CANADA’ and the year 2019 are depicted.
To the right shoulder of Billy’s colour portrait is the engraving BILLY BISHOP 1894-1956” marking his life from birth to death. The contrast between the two images creates a unique appeal for the coin as it reflects a merger of two technologies.
On the obverse side, the coin depicts a portrait of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth the Second along with the engravings “20 DOLLARS” and “ELIZABETH II D.G. REGINA” around the circumference.
The coin is made of 99.99% pure silver and is 38mm in diameter and has serrated edges. It is also free from GST and HST. And of course, as will all other productions, Royal Canadian mint provides serial security certificate for this priceless memento.
