Canada is celebrating their 150th birthday this year, with the entire year focusing on celebrations and honouring this special occasion. The Royal Canadian Mint has gotten in on the celebration fun by creating unique coins depicting images that show the true nature and love of Canada. Coin collectors can choose from a nice selection of individual coins as well as sets and proofs to add to their collection that represent the special anniversary of the country. Below are a few examples of silver coins you can purchase to commemorate the occasion.
2017 $10 Fine Silver Drum Dancing Coin
One of the most unique coins to be created by the Royal Canadian Mint for this ccasion is the Drum Dancing $10 Silver Coin. This coin is to be released as part of the Celebrating Canada’s 150th coin series and is a colourful coin to add to your collection. This is the final coin to be released in this series and it highlights the Inuit traditions that have come to be an important part of Nunavut life. The special coin launches on July 4th and is the final coin of this 13 coin series. The series features coins with images from across the country, with each image representing something unique in Canada from the landmarks to landscapes, flora and fauna. The image depicted on the coin was taken by Canadian Geographic and is shown in full colour. An Inuit drum dance is taking place on Devon Island, Nunavut with artist Mathew Nuqingaq dressed in traditional Inuit clothing, performing a traditional song with a qilaut, or drum. The coin features the word CANADA and 1867-2017 on the reverse side in commemoration of the 150th anniversary.
2017 $30 Fine Silver Coin Celebrating Canada Day
2017 $30 Fine Silver Coin Celebrating Canada Day was released on June 30th and is a fine addition to any coin collection. This photoluminescent coin is stunningly beautiful with full colour depicting an image of Canada Day at Parliament Hill. The lovely new coin shows the soaring spirit from this special day, perfect to remember this special 150th-anniversary celebration. Whether you attended the Canada Day celebrations at Parliament Hill or wish you were there, this coin is a great way to remember the celebrations. There are two scenes on one coin as the full-colour application re-creates the daytime celebrations with the Snowbirds soaring over the Peace Tower. A black light can then be used, with one included in this package, to see a fireworks display as they took place in the evening hours. This is certainly a unique coin that must be added to your coin collection. With low mintage at just 5,000 coins, the coin is limited and the demand is set to exceed the supply available. The hidden night scene with fireworks was created with the integration of black light and glow in the dark tech. This was done over the engraving elements to be able to provide a unique aspect to this special coin.
