Coin collecting has many benefits. Some coins are collected simply for investment purposes. Historic coins can become worth a lot of money over time. Many coin collectors hunt for the thrill of it. It can be fun to look through pockets of change to find the coins from your birth year or another commemorative era. No matter why you collect coins, it’s always interesting to learn more about the monetary system. Canadian coin rolls are more about the hunt for coins than investing, but you may find that rare treasure when you collect Canadian coin rolls.
What Is Canadian Coin Roll Collecting?
Coin rolls are paper tubes or wraps filled with a given number of coins of a denomination. Banks will receive rolls of mixed dates, while shops like Colonial Acres will more likely sell rolls of all one year. Naturally, older rolls can be valuable, because the value of coins increases with scarcity. One good example is 1-cent pieces from 1922 to 1926, of which relatively few were minted. But the Royal Canadian Mint also releases new rolls each year, of both commemorative issues and the standard designs in a special wrap (including new 50-cent pieces!). If you are into numismatics, coin roll collecting can be an interesting way to enrich your collection.

In 2012, the penny was removed from circulation. Collectors buy rolls of pennies to add to their collections, but other denominations are becoming just as popular. Coins that were minted prior to 1982 are generally more valuable than other coins, though it does depend on the coin. Here are five sets available from Colonial Acres that can have an interesting place in your collection.
