James Bond has been a fixture in movie theatres since the release of Dr. No in 1962. Since then, six people have played the character in the main series, spanning 25 films. The release of No Time to Die in 2021 marked the end of the Daniel Craig era of Bond films. To help mark this occasion and to satisfy the interest of collectors, Tuvalu released a $1 silver bullion coin with a special 007 design.
James Bond
Originally a character from Ian Fleming’s series of spy novels, James Bond is best known today for his film appearances. The character was based partially on Fleming’s experiences during World War II as well as on the experiences of friends and acquaintances. Bond helped to create a unique archetype of the suave international man of mystery that has significantly influenced spy fiction.
Although based on Fleming’s books and characters, the films have established some unique characteristics of their own. Perhaps most notably, Bond has been played by several actors over the years. Each portrayal has not only brought a unique flavour to the performance as Bond but also to the movies in general. For example, the Roger Moore era is much more lighthearted and gadget-oriented while the Daniel Craig era is more grounded and visceral.
For generations, James Bond has been a favourite of moviegoers. So, he is an obvious choice for commemorative coins.
The $1 Silver Bullion Coin
For 2022, the Perth Mint produced a run of 30,000 $1 silver coins for Tuvalu featuring a James Bond design. These bullion coins weigh one troy ounce and are the perfect addition to any movie lover’s or numismatist’s collection.
The reverse design is coloured in black with the famous Bond gun barrel design. This icon has been featured in the opening titles of Bond films for decades and is one of the most recognizable marks of the series.
In the center of the barrel is the 007 logo which features a pistol design integrated into the seven. This is another famous mark of the film series. Thus, anyone who enjoys James Bond movies will immediately love this reverse design.
On the obverse is an effigy of Queen Elizabeth II along with the words “1oz”, “9999 Ag”, “2022”, “Tuvalu”, “1 Dollar” and “Queen Elizabeth II”. Like the silver bullion Canada produces, these Tuvalu coins feature the queen because the island nation is part of the Commonwealth of Nations with Elizabeth II as its monarch.
The Value of Buying Bullion
Bullion coins offer special value to collectors in a few ways. First, they can be used as a vehicle for obtaining, storing and trading precious metals. Silver bullion is a great way to diversify your investments and be ready for the future.
Additionally, bullion tends to be of higher quality in terms of designs. Many bullion coins, especially those from national mints, tend to have some of the most eye-catching designs. They also tend to feel great to hold thanks to the additional heft compared to standard coins. Whether you love film, coins or precious metals, the 007 silver bullion coin has something to offer.
