The Royal Canadian Mint frequently releases Canadian coin series to commemorate special moments and important events from Canada’s history. This year the Mint is offering a special series dedicated to courage. The series is called, “2022 Moments to Hold.” This subscription series offers silver coins for collectors and history buffs. Here are some details about this iconic series of coins from the Mint.
Background of the Royal Canadian Mint Series
The coin series for the “2022 Moments to Hold” includes events from this year that Canadians can take pride in. Some of these events are anniversaries or milestones that show off the themes of perseverance, courage and strength. The four-coin subscription series is going to be released one coin at a time throughout 2022 so collectors have something to look forward to all year long. Collectors can also purchase the coins individually if they don’t want the whole collection.
50th Anniversary of the Medal of Bravery
The first coin in this subscription series is the 50th Anniversary of the Medal of Bravery coin. Queen Elizabeth II created the Medal of Bravery in 1972 along with other medals of valour to recognize courageous achievements from Canadian citizens. This $5 silver coin marks the 50th anniversary of the Medal of Bravery and commemorates all of the honorees. The reverse side of the coin has been designed to look like the Medal of Bravery, with a maple leaf, a laurel wreath and the words, “Bravery Bravoure” printed. The obverse of the coin has an image of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination $5.
Your Canadian Story
The next coin that is going to be released in the series is going to be called Your Canadian Story. Like the first coin, this will be a 99.99% silver coin valued at $5. The coin is scheduled to be released in June of 2022. We will share more about the design and story behind the next coin when released. The coin will be presented in special packaging that includes a folder and details about the individual theme or moment. We will share more about the design and story behind the next coin when released. Stay tuned for more.
Remembrance Day
The third coin in the series is the Remembrance Day coin. This coin is expected to be shipped and released in September. Remembrance Day is an important annual observance in Canada that honours the lives lost during WWI and subsequent conflicts. Canadians celebrate the holiday on November 11th. This date was chosen because the armistice to end WWI came into effect on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour in 1918. The coin is poised to be issued in 99.99% silver like the other $5 coins in the collection.
100th Anniversary of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair
The last coin in this special subscription series honours the 100th Anniversary of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. This coin is scheduled to be released in October 2022, right before the 100th annual Royal Agricultural Fair. This popular winter fair was first held in 1922 in Toronto, Canada. It was started after WWI to give farmers a way to create standards for judging domestic farm animals at exhibitions. The fair’s program today consists of thousands of livestock showings, beer and cider competitions and food samplings from various farms around Canada.
How To Get the Coins
The coins in this special series would make a great gift for new parents who are having a baby in 2022 or someone graduating from college or high school this year. This set will be admired for years to come.
