Canada Day is one of the most celebrated holidays in our country each year. It’s more than a birthday, although it’s usually referred to as Canada’s birthday. On July 1, 1867, Canada joined provinces to create the “Dominion of Canada.” This gave the country more political rights and governance, ultimately leading to its sovereignty. Today, this anniversary is celebrated throughout Canada and around the world. Learn more about some Canadian collectible coins issued by the Royal Canadian Mint that are a great way to commemorate this special day.
O Canada Gift Sets
Coin collectors like gift sets for themselves and for future numismatists. The O Canada gift sets are specially crafted collections of coins that aim to promote, celebrate, and commemorate significant aspects of Canadian history and culture.
The 2023 gift set features 5 coins, including an exclusive $1 uncirculated coin. The $1 coin displays an amusing design with an iconic Canadian symbol, the moose, encircled by a banner of maple leaves from Canada’s flag. Also included in the blister pack gift card packaging are a $2, 25-cent, 10-cent and 5-cent coin.
Visions of Canada Coin
This commemorative coin from 2022 has a face value of $30. It’s made of 99.99% pure silver, so it’s inherently precious. The design features a collage of Canadian scenery, from the mountains to the prairies and forests. Of course, the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II is featured on the obverse of the coin.
National Colours
This $100 commemorative coin released in 2021 is a 99.99% pure silver coin that had a mintage of just 800. It’s a coin that celebrates the maple leaf, probably the most recognizable symbol of Canada.

- Sugar Maple
- Black Maple
- Silver Maple
- Red Maple
- Mountain Maple

- Vine Maple
- Big Leaf Maple

A red enamelled sugar maple leaf sits in the center of the coin, with the inscribed dates 1921-2021, celebrating the 100th anniversary of Canada’s national colours, red and white. This would make a lovely addition to any coin collection.
Proudly Canadian Glow in the Dark
2017 marked the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation. The Royal Canadian Mint marked the event with this special $5 coin featuring a dynamic Canadian flag against a backdrop of bright fireworks. Set the coin in light to activate the coin to glow in the dark when the lights are off.
This coin is minted in 99.99% pure silver, and it features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s effigy on the obverse. It increases a Canadian coin collection’s value and makes a great gift to a future coin collector or addition to your own coin collection.
