Are you a fan of all things mysterious? Well then hold onto your hats, because the Royal Canadian Mint has just released their newest $20 silver coin in their Unexplained Phenomena Collection! This time, they’re diving into the story of the Duncan UFO Incident.
If you’re unfamiliar with the tale, it’s a fascinating one that involves a reported UFO sighting and mysterious burns on a man’s body. It’s just one of the many enigmatic stories that Canada has to offer and this collection is quickly becoming a fan favourite. Not only do these coins look stunning, but they offer a window into the bizarre and unexplained events that have captivated us for generations. Let’s take a closer look at the story around this UFO sighting.
The Story of the Duncan UFO Incident
The RCM’s new $20 silver coin commemorates an amazing UFO sighting that occurred in Duncan, B.C., in 1970. A nurse at the local hospital reported that she sighted a large glass-domed craft hovering outside the window of a patient’s room. She stated that the UFO was disc shaped with a diameter of approximately 50 feet. It was close enough that she could clearly see two humanoid figures inside the glass dome. One of them appeared to have seen her as well before the craft sped away. Three other witnesses corroborated her report.
The Duncan UFO Incident $20 Silver Coin
The RCM’s collectible depiction of the Duncan UFO Incident is crafted from pure silver. The reverse shows a detailed colour-over-engraved picture of the nurse viewing the strange craft from the hospital window. You see the nurse holding back the curtain on the window with the eerie light from the disc-shaped craft illuminating the room. Inside the craft that hangs in a star-filled sky, you can see two figures standing within the dome of the UFO.
One of the most stunning aspects of all of the Canada Unexplained Phenomena coins is the use of blacklight technology in the painted reverse side. Each coin comes with a small blacklight flashlight that reveals a more detailed and other-worldly version of the images.
In the Duncan UFO Incident $20 silver coin, the blacklight creates an eerie blue light at the edges of the craft, intensifies the beam of light coming from the UFO, and casts luminescent blue light and black shadows into the hospital room.
As it did on the 2020 and 2022 Unexplained Phenomena coins, RCM carries the UFO theme onto the obverse side of the coin as well. The obverse features Susannah Blunt’s beautiful effigy of a mature Queen Elizabeth II along with the double dates of her reign. What is so unique about the obverse is that the effigy has been placed over a field that is engraved with a 3D depiction of a wormhole.
