Going to a country you’ve never been to before can be an exciting experience. Tourists on average have with them a limited amount of money they’re willing to spend. Collecting banknotes is a hobby many have taken up. Once you see a few of the following, you might want to start adding them to your collection of paper money in Canada:
- Bermuda’s $2 Bill
- Switzerland 50 Franc
- England’s £10 Note
- Faroe Islands’ 1000 Kronur Note
- 50 Dollar Polymer Trinidad and Tobago Note
Bermuda’s $2 Bill
This excellent note is a favourite among collectors for its artistic value and colourful style. In 2010, it won the Banknote of the Year Award, despite its relatively low circulation. Several of its interesting attributes are a transparent butterfly only visible on close inspection, an Optiks embedded metallic thread and a watermarked hibiscus.
Switzerland 50 Franc
In 2016, the International Banknote Society (IBNS) declared this the banknote of the year. Its designer, Manuela Pfrunder, wanted the note to symbolize the Swiss people. It represents “the wealth of experiences Switzerland has to offer – expressed by the wind.”
England’s £10 Note
The writer of Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen, has gotten her face on a £10 note recently. Her image on the note is based on a portrait by James Andrews that was ordered by her nephew shortly after her death.
Faroe Islands – 1000 Kronur Note
The rare and mysterious nature of the Kronur note has solidified its status among collectors. It’s the single note on this list that doesn’t get its beauty from its colours, but rather the drawing of the back of a bird in mid-fight. Most notes are designed using pen drawings or photographs due to the lacklustre nature of paintings being used for money. This note’s picture was designed through a watercolour painting, and is one of the most interesting pictures one can find on a banknote.
50 Dollar Polymer Trinidad and Tobago Note
The only note on this list made of polymer. Regardless of the fact that 2014 saw the redesign of hundreds of banknotes, when it appeared that year, it won the Banknote Award, . There’s a red hibiscus in the front and a cardinal in flight, while the gold colour of the note makes it stand out right away. The back of the note shows a woman in lavish clothing, along with the Central Bank.
