Comic book fans are in for a real treat: the premiere team-up of DC Comics Super Heroes made it to the big screen in Justice League. Behind the comic book pages and the scenes of the film, on the other hand, the Royal Canadian Mint has also decided to treat Justice League fans with a 3-coin set celebrating the legendary comic book. The best part? Each coin’s reverse features original art by the artist of the flagship Justice League title: Canadian artist Jason Fabok. Fabok’s designs were specifically created for RCM coins, meaning you won’t be able to find them anywhere else. Coins you will get include:
Wonder Woman/The Flash
The first coin features the two heroes in an action pose. Rushing to meet the threat, Wonder Woman has her sword and shield. The Flash is behind her, his connection to the Speed Force is so strong he generates blue lightning. The artists really outdid themselves here. In the background, there is the “shattered glass” effect, with the reverse of the coin having the engraved face value “20 Dollars” and the year “2018.” The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.
Cyborg/Superman
With his fist clenched, Superman is in the foreground with his cape billowing behind him as he moves forward. Cyborg joins him, his cannon arm firing. The artwork is brought to life by the rich, vibrant colours of Canadian colorist Brad Anderson, with special colour applications that add glow-in-the-dark elements—specifically Superman’s S-Shield and eyes as he uses his heat vision, as well as Cyborgs cybernetic parts. In the background, you’re able to see the “shattered glass” effect once again, which makes the whole picture seem to be moving. The reverse also features the letters and numbers “20 Dollars”, “2018” and the portrait of her Majesty.
Aquaman/Batman
The figure of Batman is followed by some bats and right behind him in the action is Aquaman. Both are wearing alternate costumes, with Batman wearing an upgraded costume with goggles and Aquaman is wearing shoulder armour and forearm guards. The artists have made it seem like Aquaman is glistening from the water and Batman is wearing leather. The “shattered glass” effect is once more present in the background, which gives the design the feeling of movement. The reverse features the usual number and letters “20 Dollars”, “2018” and her Majesty’s portrait.
