This 2023 $50 silver coin is crafted from 99.99% pure silver with sterling silver embellishments that are plated with yellow and rose-coloured gold. The obverse features a beautiful effigy of Queen Elizabeth II with the dual dates of her reign set off by four pearls. The coin’s edges are finely reeded.
The coin features a reverse with a finely embossed cluster of silver aster flowers. Sitting atop this field of flowers is a raised three-dimensional sterling silver aster blossom which is plated with rose gold. Hovering above the aster bloom is a Monarch butterfly in flight, plated in yellow gold.
The Monarch and the Bloom coin is one of the few 2023 Royal Canadian Mint coins to have an interactive 3D component. When the coin is tilted, the elegant yellow-gold-plated Monarch butterfly flutters in a circle around the beautifully detailed rose-gold-plated aster flower as though searching for the perfect blossom. At rest, the butterfly hovers over the aster, eternally sipping its sweet nectar.
