The Royal Canadian Mint has introduced a first; a limited-edition silver coin with a FIRE AND ICE™ Canadian Diamond. This is a true collector’s item and each one of the 750 silver coins has a serialized certificate that guarantees its authenticity.
A wonderful combination of beauty and technology
There are plenty of Canadian coins for sale, but this coin is special. This spectacular coin was designed by Canadian artist, Anna Bucciarelli, and features a spiralling branch of acanthus leaves and Alberta wild roses engraved on the surface of the coin. What truly makes this coin stand out from the crowd is the Dancing Diamond™ mounted in an open square at the centre.
Designing a coin is not quick or easy. A lot of time and thought goes into the creation of a truly spectacular coin like the one the Anna Bucciarelli designed for the Canadian Royal Mint. Every element of this limited-edition 99.99% pure silver coin was carefully conceived and considered; the swirling vines mirror the circular shape of the coin and perfectly showcase the acanthus leaves, while the Alberta wild roses add a uniquely Canadian element to the otherwise neutral imagery. The patented Dancing Diamond™ mount allows the Canadian-sourced FIRE AND ICETM diamond at the coin’s centre to move continuously, allowing it to catch the light from every angle and sparkle all the time. The obverse side of the coin features a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt and the text “CANADA”, “20 DOLLARS” face value and the date “2019”.
Born in the Soviet Union, Anna Bucciarelli is a talented freelance illustrator from Toronto and has built a successful career in marketing communications. She also does freelance illustration work for individual and corporate clients. In 2016 Anna designed the so-called “Love and Joy” cup for Starbucks, featuring a snow-covered village and leaping reindeer. Anna was trained in ‘petrykivka’, an ancient Ukrainian decorative folk art. You can clearly see the influence of this art form in the design on her Starbucks mug as well as the swirling vines, acanthus leaves and Alberta wild roses on the limited edition silver coin she created for the Royal Canadian Mint.
A heartwarming representation of motherhood
Anna is no stranger to designing coins for the Royal Canadian Mint and this is her sixth coin for the Mint. But this one is very close to her heart because she used her mother as the inspiration for the design of the coin, which reflects and honours motherhood. The spiral concept depicts the generations of women who have passed down the art of motherhood through the centuries, while the contrast between the hard lines of the central square and the round edges of the coin symbolizes the need for mother’s to be both strong and caring at the same time.
Collaboration between artist and jeweller creates perfection
Beverly Hills Jewellers Mfg. Ltd also collaborated on this project and their patented Dancing Diamond™ technology adds a touch of extra innovation to this extraordinary coin. The project required the jeweller to build a special frame that would allow the diamond to continuously catch the light and sparkle, regardless of whether you hold the coin in your hand or wear it close to your heart as a pendant. Silver coins coming in many different forms and designs and part of the allure of collecting silver is the beauty and design of many of these coins. Beautifully designed and crafted coins are often worth more than their weight in silver to the people who appreciate them and recognize the intricacies and symbolism of the design. At Colonial Acres, there are a wide variety of Canadian coins for sale and you will be able to find something to suit both your taste and your budget.
